What we believe

Statements of belief
  1. We believe that there is one living and true God, existing in three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – eternally equal in glory and majesty.

  2. We believe in God the Father, who out of love created the universe and everything in it. He sustains the world with his power, and he created humanity in his image to enjoy a loving and joyful relationship with him who
    is life.

  3. We believe in the universal sin of humankind – both natural (naturally corrupt) and actual (practicing sin) – which has broken human’s relationship with the most holy God. As a consequence, instead of experiencing life, we inherit death.

  4. We believe in God the Son, the eternal God, one with the Father, through whom everything is created. He emptied himself and took human nature to live among us as Jesus. He truly suffered, was crucified during the rule of Pontius Pilate, died, and was buried. He did these things to reconcile us to the Father by faith, and to be a sacrifice to pay for both natural sins and actual guilt of humans.

  5. We believe that Jesus truly rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven, and is sitting in power until he returns to judge everyone at the Last Day. In light of this, we believe in the resurrection of the body at the return of Christ for everyone who believes. Having victory over sin and death, Christ makes eternal life available to those who believe.

  6. We believe in the forgiveness of sins. Only by grace (God’s gift) through faith in Jesus Christ can we be
    made right.

  7. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, the eternal God, equal with the Father and the Son. As Christians belong in Christ, Christ’s Spirit (the Holy Spirit) dwells in them to enable them of true good works. The Holy Spirit grants gifts for Christians to enable them to live in holiness.

  8. We believe that the Bible contains all things necessary for salvation. We believe that the Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is sufficient, infallible in its original form, and authoritative for saving faith and life.

  9. We believe in the universal church, which is the body of Jesus Christ. The visible church of Christ on earth is a group of faithful people, in which the word of God is preached and the sacraments (of baptism and the Lord’s Supper) administered according to Christ’s command. Sacraments are not only badges of a Christian’s profession of faith, but rather signs of grace, by which God’s work in us is made visible.

  10. We believe that Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead and to renew the whole creation to experience perfect life, love, and joy. Those who belong outside of Christ will be sent to eternal banishment, and those in Christ to eternal life in the New Creation, living with God forever.
